SNF2000

A personal technical workshop

Getting started

Welcome to the SNF2000 message board. Pick a board, start a topic, or join a conversation already in progress.

Find your place

The board index has places for games, computer builds, retro computing, programming, troubleshooting and everyday conversation. Introductions is a good place to say hello. Read the board rules before posting.

You need a member account and a verified email address to participate. Your profile lets you choose a display name, avatar and time zone. Security settings offer an authenticator app, recovery codes and passkeys.

Start a conversation

Choose New topic, pick a board and give your topic a clear title. Each reply appears as its own post in chronological order. Upvote helpful posts; Most upvoted is an optional sort. Use Quote when you want to respond to a specific passage; replies remain in the same conversation.

Tags help other members find related topics. You can link a discussion to published SNF2000 projects, games or articles. For troubleshooting, include the hardware or software involved, what you expected and what happened.

The formatting buttons help with links, lists, code, tables and spoilers. Preview shows how your post will look. Use Embed media to add externally hosted images, video or audio. Small hosting suggestions appear below the link box. Your avatar also uses an external image link; the board does not upload or copy member media.

Formatting help

Use Markdown for readable posts:

  • **bold text** and *italic text*
  • ~~outdated text~~ for strikethrough
  • [link text](https://example.com) for a link
  • - item for a list; start each item on a new line
  • Wrap a short command in backticks: `command`
  • Put three backticks on separate lines before and after a code block.
  • For a spoiler, use a code block beginning with ```spoiler. Text inside stays collapsed until the reader opens it.
  • Tables use pipes between columns and a separator row: | Part | Model |, then | --- | --- |, then your rows.

Paste a supported image, video or audio link on its own line, with blank lines around it, to create an embed. Media stays on the hosting site and loads when a reader chooses. Your post and media links are visible to everyone with access to this discussion.

Pick up where you left off

The Drafts page lets you find, continue or remove saved text. Bookmark a useful post and add a private note on your Bookmarks page.

Search filters help you find topics by author, tag, date and other details. Each post has a permanent link that follows it if moderators move the conversation.

Follow a whole board or use a topic's notification setting to watch every reply, receive mentions only or mute it. Email settings control optional updates and digests. Browser notifications are optional where supported.

Make knowledge easy to find

Polls can collect opinions. Help boards can mark an answer as accepted, so the useful reply is easy to find. Trusted wiki posts let eligible members improve a shared explanation while retaining revision history.

Private messages are for direct or small-group conversations. Chat is for shorter conversations. A private group can only see the spaces it has been granted access to.

Your privacy

Your profile name, biography and website are public. Your email address, saved drafts, bookmarks and account settings are private. Use Security settings to add a passkey or authenticator app, and keep recovery codes somewhere safe.

Images and players stay on their hosting sites. Loading them lets that host receive your IP address. Avatars show initials until you enable Show external avatars. Remove personal details and location metadata before uploading an image to a host; an external link does not become private just because you post it in a private conversation.

Private messages are limited to their participants and the report review process, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. Site operators can access stored content when necessary to run the service.

Get help and stay in control

Use Report on a post or message that needs a moderator's attention. A private-message report shares that message and relevant context with the reviewers. You can block new private conversations from a member and control whether you receive private messages.

Use Site Feedback for site problems or suggestions. Account data settings let you request an export or close your account; read the explanation there before proceeding.
